| Abdominal
fat works differently from fat elsewhere in the body. Abdominal
fat deposits can be extremely resistant to diet or exercise and
therefore, very difficult to get rid of. Abdominal fat can be a
problem for anyone regardless of age. If you’re looking to
reduce the amount of excess fat you have around your waist, it’s
a good thing. What is commonly referred to as abdomen fat can lead
to serious health complications, which is why it is so important
to get rid of it.
Fat that accumulates around the abdomen increases the risk of cardiovascular
disease, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. A more serious
type of fat, called visceral fat, also known as organ fat or intra-abdominal
fat, is located inside the abdomen cavity, packed in between internal
organs and torso. Visceral fat lies deeper inside the abdomen, surrounding
the abdominal organs.
Abdominal fat can be caused by stress or inadequate amounts of sleep.
However, it is usually a direct result of diet and exercise or a
lack thereof. When consuming more calories than your body uses,
you begin to store fat. For many, gaining weight in the form of
fat is easier than taking it off due to slow metabolism or inactivity.
Some people choose to overlook their growing abdomens, but we’ve
now been put on notice that as our waistlines grow, so do our health
risks. As the evidence against abdominal fat mounts, researchers
and clinicians are trying to measure it, correlate it with health
risks, and monitor changes that occur with age and overall weight
gain or loss.
Overweight people who are between the ages of
20 and 55 may even have a higher risk of experiencing migraine headaches,
in addition to all of the other associated risks of abdomen fat.
These risks continue to grow with age. The best time to start addresing
abdomen fat is now.
Getting rid of abdomen fat is often seen as being difficult. The
good news however is that a few lifestyle changes and some targeted
abdominal exercises can help you battle your belly bulge. Ab exercises
such as crunches, sit-ups, and ab machines are actually the LEAST
effective method of getting flat six pack abs.
Exercises that call for raising the legs instead of the upper body
are very effective at strengthening the transverses, a key group
of muscles that can help your six pack be seen. Exercises with a
fitness ball can be extremely helpful as it forces the use of all
the muscle groups. Whatever your choice of exercise remember that
losing abdominal fat depends 50% on nutrition, 40% on cardio exercises
and 10% on abdominal exercises.
Your primary goal, before beginning any abdomen reducing regimen
should be to determine what lifestyle changes are needed to reduce
the size of your abdominal fat. Regardless of how much you workout,
if the number of calories you take in is greater than the amount
you burn, you’ll still put on abdominal fat.
Create a reasonable plan that incorporates nutrition,
cardio, and abdominal exercises. By having a balanced plan you can
achieve your abdomen related goals.
